Time to Re-set!
September is an opportunity to re-set
Prioritise your own health and wellbeing in the weeks ahead. As temperatures cool and the evening light fades, take a little time to tune in and check in with yourself.
How has summer left you feeling?
You may be feeling a bit frayed, frazzled and scattered by now. Travel, entertaining family, social commitments and juggling work-life with home-life. Summer can fly by in a blur of activity!
Did your holiday leave you feeling exhausted?
Sometimes when we take a holiday and step away from busy routines, the adrenaline settles and a deep tiredness sets in. You may feel as if you could sleep for days. Your body is trying to communicate an unmet need for rest. All too soon we are back to reality, adrenaline kicks in, and we carry on, busier than ever.
Do you feel balanced?
The Sympathetic nervous system (freeze, fight or flight) and Parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) are in a constant tug of war. In busy modern life it is all too easy to let the Sympathetic nervous system run the show. In the long run this can lead to ill health and burnout.
When we create optimal conditions for Parasympathetic activity, we encourage better digestion, immune function, hormonal balance and cognitive function. You may find more energy to do the things you love; more spark, more oomph. Brains and bodies need time to switch off, for rejuvenation and health. Not just once a year, but regular, guilt-free, purposeful rest.
When was the last time that you just sat and daydreamed?
Those precious moments of doing not-very-much are necessary for clear and creative thinking. We often gain most clarity and insight when we stop trying so hard... gazing at clouds, noticing nature, enjoying a relaxed conversation with a friend...stepping off the hamster wheel of life for a brief moment brings many benefits.
Shropshire Health Clinic recognises that your health and wellbeing are intricately linked to lifestyle, environment and the people around you. This is a welcoming space where your health concerns can be fully explored in an unhurried appointment with a GP, consultant or other professional. A wide spectrum of wellbeing services are available including nutritional expertise, counselling, hands-on massage, acupuncture and movement classes.
What works for you?
There are many ways to create more space in your day, your week, your month, your year. Take a moment to carve out some time for you. Plan some relaxing or rejuvenating experiences for the months ahead...what floats your boat? Rekindle hobbies, friendships, activities that nurture you, places that inspire you. What invigorates you? What recharges your batteries? What simply makes you smile?
And if lying down and switching off appeals…
