International Women’s Day -Celebrating Women in Health and Our Community
Each year across the globe, on International Women’s Day (8 March), people take time to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, as well as their resilience and contributions to society. It is also an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come in advancing equality, and the progress that is still needed to ensure every woman can have the opportunity to thrive.
This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights the idea that when we give, we also gain. It encourages individuals, organisations and communities to embrace a mindset of collaboration and shared progress. By supporting one another and fostering a spirit of generosity, we can work together to build a more equal future.
“Give to Gain” emphasises the power of reciprocity. When we give, whether through time, knowledge, opportunities, advocacy or resources, we help create greater support and opportunities for women. Giving is not about losing something, it is about multiplying impact.
When women are supported to succeed, entire communities benefit. There are many ways to contribute to women’s advancement, by sharing knowledge, mentoring others, raising awareness, supporting education and training, offering opportunities, amplifying voices, or simply giving time to support others. Every action, big or small, helps create a more connected and supportive world.
At Shropshire Health, International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognise the incredible women within our community; from patients and staff, to carers, mothers, daughters, friends and colleagues. Women play a vital role in healthcare, not only as healthcare professionals but also as advocates for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of their families.
Historically, many aspects of women’s health have been misunderstood, overlooked or dismissed. Conditions such as endometriosis, menopause-related symptoms and menstrual health concerns can have a significant impact on quality of life, yet many women feel their experiences are not always fully recognised or supported.
At Shropshire Health, we believe women’s health matters. Creating safe spaces for conversations about health, listening to patients’ experiences and supporting people to access the care they need are central to improving health outcomes for women.
International Women’s Day also reminds us of the importance of empowering women with knowledge about their health. When women feel informed and supported, they are better able to make decisions about their wellbeing and seek help when something doesn’t feel right.
At Shropshire Health, we are proud to support women’s health awareness throughout the year. By encouraging open conversations, raising awareness of important health topics and ensuring people know where to turn for help, we hope to contribute to a healthier future for women across our community.
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who care, lead, support and inspire, and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring women’s voices, experiences and health needs are heard.
