Blue Monday

If the winter months are taking their toll, rest assured that we are here to help you prioritise your health and wellbeing this year.

Each year, January has a reputation for being one of the most emotionally challenging months, with the third Monday often described as the toughest day of all. This year, it falls on 19th January and is commonly referred to as Blue Monday. The day is frequently linked to mental health awareness, reflecting feelings of low mood, reduced motivation, and emotional exhaustion. This could be due to shorter days, colder weather, financial pressures, social isolation, post-holiday fatigue, and the pressure of maintaining New Year’s resolutions.

Whether or not one day can truly be considered “bluer” than another, Blue Monday has become a cultural prompt to take mental health seriously. Although it began as a publicity concept, it now serves as an annual reminder of something genuinely important - that emotional wellbeing matters. Mental health challenges don’t follow a calendar, but the struggles many people experience during the winter months are very real.

Blue Monday isn’t about labelling a single day as the most difficult of the year, it is about recognising that emotional lows deserve attention and care. It creates space for meaningful conversations, encourages us to check in with one another, and reminds us to listen, support, and respond with empathy - values that are important not just in January, but all year round.

Winter can place extra demands on both your physical and mental wellbeing. Overcoming the winter blues begins with self-care, by staying active, nourishing your body, prioritising rest, and taking time to tune in to how you’re feeling, inside and out.
